Eleanor Rose Whitfield
A Life Well Lived
Eleanor Rose Whitfield, who taught three generations of Asheville children to read, died peacefully at home on October 14, 2026. She was 88.
Born in Hendersonville to a carpenter and a seamstress, Ellie was the first in her family to finish college. She spent 34 years at Isaac Dickson Elementary, where former students still stop her family in the grocery store to say she was the reason they love books.
She married Thomas Whitfield in 1961. Together they kept a vegetable garden that fed half the street, and a front porch that never had an empty chair. She did the crossword in pen, baked a pound cake for every new neighbor, and believed that most problems looked smaller after a walk.
Ellie is survived by her children, Margaret (David) Lane and Paul Whitfield; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, who called her Gigi. She was preceded in death by Thomas, her husband of 58 years.

Questions
Will it make things up? No. It writes only from what you tell it. If you leave something out, it leaves it out too, and you can edit every word before anyone sees it.
Is writing really free? Yes. The obituary, the eulogy and the rewrites are free. You only pay if you want the printable program without the watermark.
What exactly do I print? A four-panel folded program: front cover with photo, their life story, the order of service, and a verse with photos and a thank-you on the back. One sheet, printed on both sides, folded once.
Which paper size? US Letter (folds to 5.5 × 8.5 inches) or A4 (folds to A5). Card stock around 65–80 lb feels best, but any printer paper works.
Can a print shop print it? Yes. Any shop can print the home file. The Complete program adds a print-shop file with bleed, one page per panel.
What if I spot a mistake after paying? Fix it and download again. There is no limit on edits or downloads for that program.
Can my family help? Sign in with your email and open the same draft on any device. Share your screen or read it aloud together.
Is my information private? Yes. Drafts and photos are visible only to you. We never publish them, sell them, or use them to train AI models.
What if it is not right? Write to us within 14 days for a full refund. A real person reads every email.
How fast is it? Most families finish in about 15 minutes. The drafts take around 20 seconds to write.
